New Pier Allocations for 2021 Open June 1 - 30, 2021
As part of the adopted TRPA Shoreline Ordinances, beginning in 2019 TRPA will accept applications for up to 12 new private piers between June 1 and June 30th every 2 years. Any unused allocations will be added to the next allocation cycle.
TRPA Prioritizes Multiple-parcel Pier Applications
There are a number of pre-qualifications that will need to be addressed. At a minimum, you’ll need to review your property location to see if you are eligible to apply, and if you are, then you’ll need a site assessment, scenic score for your upland residence, and a bathymetric survey to determine the size and location for your proposed pier. There is also a strong bias in the ordinances toward shared piers. Illustrating the demand, in 2019 more than 45 multiple-use and 76 single-use applications for new private pier allocations were submitted to the TRPA. Seven multi-use and 5 single-use applications were selected.
At TLOA’s urging, the TRPA staff agreed to extend the timeframe for submitting a completed new pier application from 60 days to 6 months or until January of the following year.
